Thank you to the eight Washington State Senators co-sponsoring Eric Oemig's resolution! It's a beautiful document that gives me hope that we can stop our rogue President before he chokes out Democracy in this country.
President Bush and Dick Cheney are a clear and present danger to our civil liberties. We have endured five years of state of emergency; the Patriot Act; the Military Commissions Act, removal of Habeus Corpus, erosion of the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments, and blatant subversion of our Constitution.
Congress has failed to act.
President Bush started an unprovoked war of aggression in Iraq and lied to Congress and the American People about the reasons for doing it. Congress was unable to pass even a nonbinding resolution to end the war. They have the power to cut off funding for the war, but have not.
Four years later, Congress is sitting on their hands while President Bush prepares to invade Iran. Kucinich warned that if Bush invades Iran, then impeachment would be back on the table. What would be the point then?
It's imperative that we impeach President Bush before he provokes a world wide conflagration. If Congress won't stop our rogue President, then Americans need to find another avenue to protect themselves. Impeaching through the State Legislature is just what the framers of the Constitution recommended for a situation like ours now.
I think protecting the U.S. Constitution and preventing another genocidal war trumps roads and schools any day--at the State level or the Federal level.
The question for Washington State legislators is whether or not the allegations are serious enough to warrant investigation. They could vote to support Senator Oemig's resolution, and send it out to Congress in the space of an afternoon.
It would be an afternoon well spent.
