Open letter to our representatives

Find your Senator here on the WA State Legislature page.
---
Honorable Washington State Representative,

I want to help you understand that House rules gives the people the power to impeach through their State Legislatures. Please take the time to watch the 25 minute DVD called "Articles of Impeachment" that I delivered to your Olympia office a few days ago. I also included a handout explaining House Rules, sometimes referred to as "Jefferson's Manual." The question legislators need to ask themselves is: Are these allegations serious enough to warrant investigations? If yes, then vote for Eric Oemig's petition and be done with it. The rest of the job is up to Congress. It could be done in a single afternoon. Please look at the following website:http://www.impeachbush.tv/impeach/statebasis.html

Phil Burke is one of the nation's experts on impeachment. If you like, I will try to get you a direct phone call with him. Please speak with him as soon as you can. Please browse his website: http://www.impeachbush.tv/index.html

I believe that impeaching President Bush before he invades Iran is the most important work on the planet right now. Bush is willing to risk nuclear conflagration that would imperil life everywhere. Putin has already expressed interest in taking back the Balkins if Bush invades. Congress is doing nothing. Who will protect us from this mad tyrant?

Representative, our Constitution and the Rule of Law are the basis of our civil society. We have endured five years of state of emergency; the Patriot Act; Military Commissions Act; torture, indefinite detentions; erosion of the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendment rights; removal of Habeus Corpus, and subversion of our Constitution. We have crossed the line into the dangerous territory of a police state. I know your job is filled with concerns of the state and your district, but please remember that your constituents need you to act now in this time of Constitutional crisis. If our President is not stopped now, roads and schools will be the last of our worries.

Representative, examine your heart now, and act out of love and respect for the people who call on you to protect and represent them. Please consider sponsoring the resolution to investigate to the Washington State House. At the very least, please let us know that you will vote for it.

Nobody chooses to get caught up in the politics of impeachment. I am called to do this work because I believe it is the necessary first step needed to redeem our precious system of Constitutional government, and restore trust in the office of the President. People from all over the world are watching us with terror, and wonder if such a blessed people will just stand idly by while our President threatens to destroy life as we know it. I was a professional dancer before I became a full time mother and am not a professional activist. I do this work so that my son, and future generations, can live life in health and dignity. I am working as fast as I can, as much as I can, to restore Democracy in this country and peace on the planet. Will you join us?

Please feel free to call me on my cell: xxx-xxx-xxxx

I anxiously await your reply,

Senator Oemig BILL REQ.#: S-1832.1/07

Folks,

A great day for Democracy in Olympia! Eric Oemig announced his resolution to investigate Bush and Cheney to a full room of vocal supporters. Thank you to co-sponsoring Senators Harriet Spanel, Darlene Fairley, Jeanne Kohl-Welles, Margarita Prentice, Karen Fraser, Debbie Regala, Claudia Kauffman and Adam Kline for also having the courage to stand up for accountability in government. They deserve to receive huge loads of loving Valetine's Day emails for seeing the truth with a clear eye, and demanding a look into the many high crimes and misdemeanors of Bush and Cheney.

I'm disappointed that Josh Feit at The Stranger (http://www.thestranger.com/blog/2007/02/well_ill_be) didn't take the time to see through the usual inane arguments for avoiding investigations and impeachment. The question Legislators in Washington State need to ask themselves now is; "Are the allegations of misconduct by the President and Vice President serious enough to warrant investigations?" If they adopt this resolution to investigate, then the Washington State Legislature sends it to the floor of the House of Representatives as a privileged item. It could be accomplished in less than an afternoon and never have to cross their desks again. The rest of the work is up to Congress.

Even in Congress the job is not too onerous. A committee would be selected to investigate, and the regular work of Congress would carry on as usual. Impeachment does not require proof of guilt. That comes after impeachment when the Senate holds a trial. All that is needed for impeachment is sufficient evidence to file charges. The evidence of guilt are overwhelming and well documented.

As Senator Oemig points out, people in government are multi-taskers. They go from meeting to meeting prepared to take on wide ranging issues such as transportation, child health care and port security in a single afternoon. Adding impeachment to the mix isn't going to make anybody blow a circuit.

Impeachment is about government being accountable to the people and restoring rule of law in this country. I'm glad that we are represented by a growing number of Legislators in this state who believe that we need to call a stop to abuse of Executive powers before it chokes the life out of Democracy. Let the world know that Democracy lives in Washington State!

Gentlemen, thanks for everything.

Impeach. Investigate. Remove.

Letter to WA Legislator

Honorable [____],

Thank you for responding to my previous letter. It is true that any U.S. Representative can rise to impeach any time they want. We want our Representatives to Congress to honor their oaths to preserve and protect the Constitution now. One strong reason to call for impeachment through the State is that our voices are joined together to speak loudly through our State Representatives. The State resolution does not compel U.S. Representatives to Congress to rise to impeach, but it should give them the courage to do so. But, a State resolution can be used to initiate impeachment by having a Representative or Committee introduce it onto the Floor. In the case of Florida, it is unlikely that Lamar would have risen to impeach Swayne without the resolution. Otherwise he might have already done it by himself.

The citizens of Washington State would not have to petition through the State if our U.S. Representatives would use their power to impeach. They have ignored our pleas for years. That is why we ask you to represent us in this urgent matter. Mr. [____], what event draws the line in the sand for you? Maybe the fact that testimony coerced by torture is now admissible in US Courts of Law? Maybe you would sponsor this petition if our President threatened another war, maybe a nuclear conflagration? Maybe if our Democracy were threatened to an extraordinary degree?

A vote to support this resolution would not take much time. The question legislators in Olympia need to ask themselves is: Are the allegations of wrongdoing serious enough to warrant investigation? Legislators simply need to vote yes or no. If it is adopted here, all of the work to follow would be that of Congress. There is no need to establish guilt or hash out an investigation at the State level. The argument that this petition would take too much time away from your agenda seems like a red herring, and I hear those exact words repeated as an official Democratic mantra every day.

Washington State Legislators need to be responsive to the changing needs of their constituents. If enough constituents are calling on you to support a resolution to impeach, then that can trump roads and schools. If the Bush administration were not robbing billions of dollars from Washington State taxpayers, you could be more effective in all of your work here. When will you stop the robbery of Washington State funds by the Bush administration?

Mr. [____], the citizens of Washington State are informing you that nothing on your agenda is more important now than stopping a tyrant President. Every elected official has sworn an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. Washingtonians have every right to call on you now to honor your oath. It is not your decision alone to decide what is most pressing. By definition, Representatives must be responsive to concerns of the People. The People of Washington State have an urgent need to rid themselves of a tyrant president and want you to represent them on this point.

SBJM8016 might be our best chance to defend the Constitution from the abuses of the Bush administration. We desperately hope that the Washington State legislature will act now to protect our Constitution and defend Democracy in this country. We hope our petition will encourage one of our US Representatives to rise to impeach. There are no guarantees of the outcome here, but we must go forward to do what is right for this country. The Constitution is not negotiable. Torture is a heinous crime. Another war, intolerable.

On the question of privilege: there is no guarantee that Senator Oemig's resolution would initiate impeachment, but it would be embarrassing to ignore. It could give a fence -sitting member of Congress the courage to rise to impeach. Washington is joined by a growing number of States that are working to initiate impeachment through their state Legislatures. We can join our voices together by speaking en masse through our Representatives in the State Legislature. Our time to act is now, what might be the consequences of inaction?

You have expressed your strong distain for the illegal and immoral policies of the Bush administration, and I trust that we are in agreement on those points. Will you help?

submitted with respect,

Linda Boyd

Letter to Postman

Thank you to the eight Washington State Senators co-sponsoring Eric Oemig's resolution! It's a beautiful document that gives me hope that we can stop our rogue President before he chokes out Democracy in this country.

President Bush and Dick Cheney are a clear and present danger to our civil liberties. We have endured five years of state of emergency; the Patriot Act; the Military Commissions Act, removal of Habeus Corpus, erosion of the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments, and blatant subversion of our Constitution.

Congress has failed to act.

President Bush started an unprovoked war of aggression in Iraq and lied to Congress and the American People about the reasons for doing it. Congress was unable to pass even a nonbinding resolution to end the war. They have the power to cut off funding for the war, but have not.

Four years later, Congress is sitting on their hands while President Bush prepares to invade Iran. Kucinich warned that if Bush invades Iran, then impeachment would be back on the table. What would be the point then?

It's imperative that we impeach President Bush before he provokes a world wide conflagration. If Congress won't stop our rogue President, then Americans need to find another avenue to protect themselves. Impeaching through the State Legislature is just what the framers of the Constitution recommended for a situation like ours now.

I think protecting the U.S. Constitution and preventing another genocidal war trumps roads and schools any day--at the State level or the Federal level.

The question for Washington State legislators is whether or not the allegations are serious enough to warrant investigation. They could vote to support Senator Oemig's resolution, and send it out to Congress in the space of an afternoon.

It would be an afternoon well spent.

WA resolution to investigate

Look at this beautiful piece of history!

http://www.leg.wa.gov/pub/billinfo/2007-08/Pdf/Bills/Senate Joint Memorials/8016-Impeachment-Bush & Cheney.pdf

This is what Senator Oemig's resolution to investigate looks like. It's a beautiful document.

Washington joins New Mexico, Vermont, California, Illinois and Minnesota--all have similar petitions to Congress under consideration. An informed public will never accept a lawless president.

Please contact your legislators to ask that they support this resolution today. They are waiting for the word of their constituents to give them courage.

Congress sits on their hands while Bush threatens to invade Iran. The People can impeach through their State Legislatures.

Here's a letter I recently sent to one of our state representatives:

Dear Representative [__],

We have a "letter to Santa" problem. The whole point is that the White House ignores The People and Congress. I believe that 'disdain for Congress and The People' alone would give us reason enough to impeach. The majority of people in this country do not want to be ignored, lied to, and endangered by a tyrant President. I think you underestimate the power of an informed and aroused populace. Our resolution to impeach is not a "letter to Santa," but a demand for accountability, for investigations, and for removing criminals from office. Our 14,000 local signatures are joined by millions more across the country. Your timely and serious attention to this matter of accountability gives you a share of that power. The Bush administration has forgotten that the People of this country are Santa, and we won't be letting him rob us with impunity any more.

All government officials have sworn an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution. Millions of Americans are asking their representatives at all levels of government to do exactly that. Are you willing to go on record as supporting the status quo? Do you favor extending Presidential powers any further? Shall we allow our President to extend the current State of Emergency for another five or ten years? Are you suggesting that ordinary citizens should not bother to petition this government for redress? Shall we sit on our hands until he invades Iran?

The beauty of impeaching through the State Legislatures is that when a State Legislature adopts a resolution to impeach, it goes to the floor of the House of Representatives as a privileged item. At the very least, it would be very embarrassing to ignore. Impeachment is a peaceful way to call this administration into account. I believe it would be a mercifully short process because the evidence is overwhelming. It's obvious that Congress lacks the courage to stand up to our President, and that we will have to direct them from the bottom up. Members of Congress who won't demand investigations are in effect covering for criminals.

The people support an impeachment process even though the Democrats do not. The polls showing support for impeachment have been trending upward. The most recent Zogby poll interviewed 1,200 U.S. adults from October 29 through November 2, 2006 and found that 53% agreed with the statement:

"If President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should consider holding him accountable through impeachment." 42% disagreed, and 5% said they didn't know or declined to answer. The poll has a +/- 2.9% margin of error. The people want the Congress to hold the President accountable. Among Democrats and Independent voters--over 65% favoring an impeachment investigation.

[__], I am glad that you serve the people of the [__]th district so well. I know that you share the values of the many people petitioning for impeachment now. There is no guarantee of the outcome of this venture, but we must go forward with it. President Bush is a clear and present danger to the people of this country. To do nothing would be criminally negligent.

I look forward to working with you as this resolution gains traction.

Respectfully,
Linda Boyd
